Letters of Recommendation

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

I am writing on behalf of Madeleine Considine or Maddy as we refer to her. Maddy worked as the sideline reporter for the LMU baseball team during the spring 2023 season and was an integral part of what turned out to be one of the best streams in the West Coast Conference.

Maddy’s duties stretched beyond the microphone as well. She was a part-time researcher for statistics and tidbits about individual players and coaches and chipped in with social media coverage of games as well. Maddy even acted as the sports information director on her own this season, taking the helm at Long Beach State in an away contest. She filled in valiantly and was a huge asset in a pinch. She also remained extremely calm despite being thrown into the fire in an environment she is not used to.

As for her abilities on the sideline, Maddy always brought a jovial yet professional demeanor to her role. She would provide each coach with a handful of questions in the middle innings of a ballgame and build follow-ups based on their answers and became excellent at reading a coach’s emotions to note when it was necessary to wrap an interview early.

The ability to develop relationships will see Maddy go far in life. She was quick to develop rapport with former Lions head coach Nathan Choate to the point where he would greet her with a smile on her face when she would bound around the corner for the pregame chat. Maddy sat in the press box next to me for all but one home game in 2023, quite the commitment for an undergraduate student. She and I would workshop questions to ask the coaches during the games, potential post-game candidates and questions they might be asked. Throughout the season, her ability to pick out two or three important points and succinctly interpret them improved immensely and demonstrated her ability to learn on the fly.

I would recommend Maddy for any role that involves interpersonal connections. She develops those connections quickly and deeply and if I could hire her to our staff, it would be an absolute no-brainer. I am pumped to see how far she goes in life and can see her easily surpassing my own abilities quickly.

Cheers,

Quinn Ireland M.B.A.

LMU Assistant Sports Media Relations Manager

To Whom It May Concern:

I taught Madeleine Considine in an introductory reporting class at Loyola Marymount University in the spring of 2023.  Throughout the semester, Madeleine demonstrated a cheerful enthusiasm for learning the craft of journalism as well as a solid work ethic. She was one of the most eager and reliable students in the class. She worked well both solo and in groups, often becoming the de facto leader. She met her deadlines and did not shy away from challenging assignments, including a final narrative project that in her hands became a moving, magazine-length feature about a young woman suffering from anorexia nervosa. Madeleine is bright, motivated, and capable, and I think she will be a fine addition to any future team.

Sincerely,

Michelle O’Donnell
